We Rebel Because...
We rebel because we are rebellious.
I am reading through a 40 day devotional that focuses on 40 key biblical thoughts. Today the author, Jim Ladd, asked me why rules cause me to rebel. I could only come up with one answer: because I am rebellious. That answer made me a bit uncomfortable but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it’s true. And I bet that you are rebellious too.
Some of us are natural rule-followers. We like the structure, order, and predictability that rules afford us. The best world is a world where everyone follows the rules because it is fair, just, and balanced. However, perhaps you are like me and naturally push back against rules. Why? Because rules are meant to be broken. Rules are for people who don’t know better, people who don’t get the big picture, or who need extra help getting along.
Jim argues that we are all sinners but some of us don’t know it yet.
There are only two kinds of people in the world: sinners who admit it and sinners who don’t. - Jim Ladd
My rebellious nature is evidence of my sinful nature. Do you have a sinful nature too?
