The Meaning of Marriage - Review

The Meaning of Marriage Getting married may be the most significant thing that you ever do. Popular culture has been in the process of defining the marriage relationship for years. Our society is currently deciding what marriage is and how it brings value individuals and communities. Timothy Keller's book, The Meaning of Marriage, tackles this same task through a Christian lense. His insight is based on personal experience as a husband, pastor, and theologian. The product is an insightful look at the most influential human relationship that anyone will ever have.

Keller does an excellent job contrasting different views of marriage and explaining the rationale behind his personal convictions. His work is consistently practical, insightful, logical, and Bible based. He addresses complex issues surrounding gender roles, sex, and identity with humble clarity. He doesn't tread lightly but, instead, chooses carefully where to put his feet.

Keller defines marriage clearly in a time of societal uncertainty.

I would recommend reading this book. It is relevant for the both the married and unmarried and does an excellent job presenting a comprehensive, coherent, and clear view of marriage. I have been married for eight years and have read a dozen books on marriage; this has been the most insightful yet. Get it, read it, and look at marriage with more clarity than ever before.
