Shift - Review

Shift

The world has been devastated by a powerful new weapon. Few have been preserved in a series of silos embedded beneath the earth. The survivors work with the hope of survival; they work in shifts. Huge Howey's Shift tells the story of those who outlived the end of the world and fight to keep humanity alive. Howey's second novel follows his work titled Wool and takes place in the same universe. The story introduces new characters who approach the utopian future from a new angle. The writing is clear and the characters develop slowly but surely. The heroes are conflicted, villains are bad, and bystanders help create a colorful world context.

I would recommend reading this book. It is an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic world with thoughtful characters and plot. Some of the relationships between characters felt contrived but a constant stream of "ah-ha" moments kept the story exciting.
