How Spokane is Smarter than Seattle
Seattle is a city known for its universities and hospitals. It's home to some of the world's largest corporations and attracts brilliant minds from both near and far. It's generally considered an educated city, but Spokane has Seattle beat. This is according to a recent study by the Barna Group which rates "Bible-minded" cities from a pool of top media markets. What? You may ask, Spokane is one of the top 100 media markets in America? Don't be rude, of course it is.
Spokane has Seattle beat when it comes to being Bible-minded.
But what about Spokane and Seattle? Well, the two scored close enough to each other with the East-siders registering 28% to Seattle's 22%. That gap might not seem like a lot but it was enough to secure a middle of the road score for Spokane (52nd of 100) while Seattle ranked among the lower fourth (72nd of 100).
We get to break the good news to people.
What does this tell us? Nothing new: we live in Biblically illiterate societies. People don't know what they don't know about the Bible but this isn't all bad news. Those of us who live in such places have an opportunity to break the good news to people for the first time. Our message is a fresh one and you might be surprised how open people are to scripture. So take heart and know that your neighbors are waiting to hear from you!
