Bossidy and Charan bring two extremely qualified perspectives into this discussion with top tier resumes and experiences. The book mixes insight with anecdotal evidence from the two corporate veterans. Bossidy and Charan describe the quantifiable differences between producers and non-producers. They highlight the value of honesty above courtesy and its power to inform systems of success. Effective teams, strategies, and operations are central to their method. But the hero of the book is the oft maligned manager. Great management, say Bossidy and Charan, is the key to great organizations.

I would recommend reading this book. It shed a unique light on leadership and management. I was challenged to roll up my sleeves and become more involved with the process we employ to get things done. I felt lead to measure success and productivity differently and raise the bar when it comes to assessment and evaluation. The stories told by the authors were not always interesting, in fact, they could be downright boring. The background of these two men is far different from my own and there is always something to gain there.
