Second Guess What Kids Know

Kids-React-Walkman-FI.jpg

Kids React WalkmanThe Fine Brothers host a series of excellent videos online. One of my favorite series features the reaction of children to popular culture. But today they featured a video where kids were confronted by a cassette player. Watch as kids explore technology from the "90's" and are baffled by its lack of features. Videos like this remind me of the cultural gap that lay between children's ministry workers and the kids themselves. I am reminded to second guess the ways in which I try to communicate with kids.

Second guess what kids might know.

Assuming that kids understand more than they do can be a deal breaker. Great communicators must find ways to discover what kids know and speak accordingly. It is a constantly moving target and requires each of us to refresh our assumptions regularly.

Check out the video here.
