Some Core Values

I was thinking about my core values. Have you ever asked yourself which ideas you are not willing to budge on? We all have them, don’t we? My first pass at a list is short but I would like to throw them out there. What do you think? What would you add or change?

1. The Bible is God’s word and the foundation of my faith. I believe that it is true and the starting point for anyone who wishes to follow Christ. The Bible tells one story of God’s love from the beginning. Jesus Christ is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us in all of scripture and all of time.
2. Jesus Christ is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us. His sacrifice has provided the human race with the only way to God. Everyone needs to know about Jesus because Jesus loves and everyone.
3. Worship is the way I reciprocate God’s love. I worship God by lifting him up for the world to see. I worship in the way I treat myself, my family and others. God will be lifted up through my behavior. I set aside times to explicitly worship God for how awesome he is.
4. Service is the best way for me to express my core values. My values can be written and read but they are better seen first hand. This is the way in which I will engage my culture.

Nitro Was Amazing

Nitro was amazing this year. It was so cool to see hundreds of kids worshiping together in one place. I have heard many great stories about children experiencing God in a way that they will never forget. Thanks to all of the many leaders who make this event so great.

Comfort in clutter?

a cluttered mind

Have we allowed ourselves to grow spiritually or do we sabotage our own growth with a busy schedule? Do we ever allow ourselves to think clearly or do we take comfort in a messy mind? I am reading a book that discusses how we let our lives becomes cluttered so that we do not have to look at our true selves.[1] I am the keeper of my own schedule and so are you. Why don’t we create more time to develop spirituality? Are we afraid of what we might find if we look too closely? Honest reflection can be a disturbing thing but it always reminds me of my need of Christ. I am constantly reminded of my dependency on Christ but rarely allow myself to become desperate for Him.

I have been working on brentcolby.com. My goal is to make a change from hosting the most boring place online to hosting a somewhat interesting place online. We will see how this comes togeather.

I am trying to find a wordpress theme that I can work with to incorporate some media and use as a light content management system since I don’t plan to do much blogging here.

Keep posted. Next time you visit here it will hopefully suck less.
